The seven in attendance (including some friends and family from out of town) met in an informal discussion-type meeting, at the Sun Shoppe in downtown Melbourne, to discuss the planning of events for OMF. Discussion started at around 8pm and ended around 9pm.
Some events discussed:
1. 1% Zombie Walk.
The planning and promotion of the event were the primary topics of discussion. The suggested was made to move the walk from this friday(16th) to May 1st, to both extend the time for planning and promotion, and to coincide with national actions. The details of the event as discussed(still tentative): A mass walk through downtown, in suits and ties and zombie makeup, as the zombie 1%, pass around monopoly money yelling "BUY!" "SELL!" instead of "BRAINS!" Also discussed was having another group dress as the 99% (a la Bruce Springsteen lol?) carrying brooms and dustpans and sweeping up the 1% mess. Some other aspects of this that will need attention that were discussed: production of flyers, collection of make-up/costumes, setting up a FB event page, coordinating with others who have previously organized similar events. The temp check was all good. We may see a proposal out of this soon!?
2. Organizing community outreach such as Food Not Bombs style park feedings.
Some tentative plans were made to go and meet with some local charities to find what they do, who they serve, who needs it most and where, and to get involved more directly with those in need. No real specifics were discussed concerning time and date. Still in planning; open for suggestion.
3. Printing and posting flyers/posters around town using wheat paste.
To bring attention to some issues, and let others that might not hangout on the internet so much know where we are and what we are interested in, the idea was suggested to post small posters around town using wheat paste(a home-made glue that is impressively tough). Images would be uploaded to the FB group page, to be printed and posted as one may see fit. Time and date suggested for a more group oriented type of action was one or two days of posting taking place the evening after GA. Still in planning; open for suggestion.
There was plenty of other discussions about, basically everything else in the universe. I feel a good time was had by all, and some planning got done! If I missed anything specific, please let me know!
