The meeting started roughly at 8pm with 7 attendees. Discussion was focused on finalize plans of action previously discussed.
Zombie Walk: The May 1st Day of the Dead Action march through Downtown Melbourne will begin on Tuesday (May 1st) at noon, and last until around 4. It will end in the vacant lot near the tracks between the Nomad Cafe and the florist. The idea, in line with the May Day General Strike, is to bail on work and school and spend the day as group of zombies dressed as the 1% (and possibly 99% interlopers), toss (fake) money around, and just be haughty zombies for a day. A Facebook event will go up after some sort of general approval - such as at GA- and flyers are in the works.
Volunteering for the Daily Bread: To get involved positively with those in need in the area, some have decided to volunteer one day out of the month. It will be on Tuesdays from 7:30am - 10:30pm. This time and day were chosen because DB is in need of volunteers during the week. A specific start date has yet to be chosen. An application may be needed to participate. Car Wash Fundraiser: Plans were discussed to have a car wash at the Hardee's on Babcock St. to raise funds for our group or another. A tentative date of May 19th was given. More info and discussion to come.
Trayvon Martin Tragedy: A 17 year old boy, Trayvon Martin, was shot and killed in a Sanford neighborhood, by George Zimmerman, the local captain of the neighborhood watch. Interest was expressed in planning an action in solidarity with those affected by this tragedy. Ideas discussed: A sign wave on University, in Melbourne; getting in touch with other groups that are planning actions and join them; on Wednesday, March 21st dress in all black to show solidarity:www.facebook.com/events/266335826782994/. For more info on this tragedy, and the controversy surrounding it:news.google.com/news?ned=us&q=trayvon%20martin&btnG=Search+News.
The meeting ended at around 9:30pm, and the obligatory breeze-shoot happened.
LET ME KNOW IF I FORGOT OR MISREPRESENTED ANYTHING.
